Brief Synopsis

Amberley Heights: Echoes of the Past is a fantasy novel spanning the decade from 2002 to 2012. It is Part One of a trilogy, in which the fate of a magnificent coastal mansion with a dark secret is tied to a doll’s house made in its image, a stunning replica model that Destiny conspires to send to a special little girl many miles away. Robbed of his birthright, the disinherited heir searches the country for the doll’s house and finally uncovers its whereabouts, just as a claim is made for the property.

Detailed Synopsis - WARNING! Contains some spoilers

As an old woman lies dying in hospital, her only blood relative and his wife are already clearing her possessions from Amberley Heights, the beautiful cliff-top property in Dorset that she has lived in all her life. One item sent to a charity shop is a doll’s house made in the image of Amberley Heights, a decision that will change the fortune of Dorcas and Anna Sharpe forever.

When the Will is read they discover that a covenant written into the Title Deeds decrees that the coastal mansion belongs to the owner of the replica house and so the couple race to the charity shop to retrieve it, but it is too late; a cash buyer has already bought the doll’s house and taken it away.

For Dorcas, a quest begins to find the doll’s house and reclaim that which he believes is rightfully his. Watching his every move, Anna has her own agenda and a secret she has hidden from her husband throughout their marriage.

Meanwhile, Fate sends the doll’s house on its own journey across the country before bringing it to a car boot sale in Warwickshire. Nine years have passed and a little girl called Felicity receives a second-hand doll’s house on her Halloween birthday. As the sun sets the enchanted doll’s house comes to life and with it a small wooden doll called Twig, who wastes no time in explaining to Felicity the importance of certain items held within the house. At midnight the magic fades for another year and Twig returns to her usual form as a roughly carved doll with string hair. From that first night, Felicity has a recurring dream every night which haunts her and from her dream she is able, over a period of time, to draw a portfolio of images of the house and its decor, furnishings and views.

Almost a year passes and Felicity is on holiday in Dorset with her mother, Belle and Belle’s new partner. Using the drawings of images from her dreams and the paperwork recovered from within the doll’s house, Felicity convinces her mother to make enquiries about the property. Just along the coast, Dorcas prepares to travel to Warwickshire, having finally discovered the whereabouts of the house. However, Anna has no intention of sharing the prize with him and races to get there first.

The story reaches its climax on Halloween. Only one person can present the Title Deeds and doll’s house to claim ownership of Amberley Heights and a twist at the end of the story threatens to snatch the property from the one Destiny has chosen to win.
